Sri Lanka Embassy in Amman gifts a collection of books on Sri Lanka to the University of Jordan

A collection of English books on Sri Lanka, sponsored by the Bank of Ceylon was gifted to the University of Jordan by the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Amman on 01 May 2024  further strengthening the cultural cooperation between the two countries.

At the handing over ceremony, the President of the University of Jordan Dr. Nadhir Obeidat praised the gesture of good will by the Embassy in providing a valuable collection of books written by Sri Lankan authors to the university library.

In response, Ambassador of Sri Lanka  in Jordan, J.A.D.S.  Priyangika Wijegunasekara stated that the acceptance of this offer reflects the university's commitment to  promote cultural exchanges and academic excellence. She further highlighted that the gift symbolizes the friendly cooperation between Sri Lanka and Jordan and that it will enrich the university library with Sri Lankan literature. The Ambassador  expressed  hope that the books  will deepen the understanding of Sri Lankan culture, language, and history among the Jordanian youth.

Appreciating the initiative, Vice President for Humanitarian College Affairs Dr. Nahid Amish observed that these books would provide researchers in Sri Lankan affairs with valuable information and stressed the importance of deepening the relationship between the University and the Embassy, based on the strong relations between the two countries.

Speaking at the gathering, Director of the Library Dr. Mujahid Dhunibabat highlighted the importance of bridging countries and cultures through the exchange of publications.

The collection contained books covering an array of topics of interest to researchers and scholars wishing to learn about the history and culture of Sri Lanka.

The academic and administrative staff of the university and the staff of the Embassy of Sri Lanka were present at the ceremony.
