The High Commission of Sri Lanka in Singapore hosted an Iftar dinner on 04 April 2024 with the participation of the Sri Lankan Muslim community residing in Singapore. The main objective of the event was to promote the timeless message of love, unity and brotherhood and share the blessings of Ramadan.
Minister in the Prime Minister’s office and Second Minister for Education and Foreign Affairs of Singapore Dr. Maliki Bin Osman graced the celebration as the Guest of Honour. The event was well attended by representatives of the diplomatic corps in Singapore, the Sri Lankan expatriate Muslim community, and other special invitees.
Welcoming the guests, High Commissioner of Sri Lanka to Singapore Senarath Dissanayake spoke of the importance of Ramadan and promoting interfaith harmony for societal advancement. He underscored Sri Lanka's renowned heritage of multiculturalism and religious pluralism, which serve as key factors in fostering social cohesion and promoting interfaith dialogue and coexistence.
High Commissioner Dissanayake also commended the host country's commitment in promoting interfaith harmony, emphasizing its relevance in today's global context. Concluding his remarks, the High Commissioner requested the gathering to pray together for peace, harmony and trust among all communities living in Sri Lanka.
Mr. Ahamed Al Attas from the Balavi mosque in Singapore conducted the sermon and Islam religious observances. Following the breaking of the fast, the attendees engaged in Magrib prayers.
The evening culminated with a traditional Sri Lankan Iftar dinner organized by the High Commission.
