Embassy of Sri Lanka in Havana celebrates the 75th anniversary of the Independence Day of Sri Lanka

The Embassy of Sri Lanka in Havana organized a diplomatic reception followed by dinner to celebrate Sri Lanka´s  75th Anniversary of Independence.

Around 100 guests attended the event which included Cuban dignitaries and officials, international well-wishers, Sri Lankan students studying in Cuba and other Sri Lankan nationals. Minister (Council of Ministers of Cuba)  Marta Sabina Wilson González was the Chief Guest representing the Cuban Government. The Guest of Honour was Vice Minister of the Ministry of  Foreign Affairs of Cuba Josefina Vidal.

Addressing the gathering, Ambassador of Sri Lanka in Cuba Lakshitha Ratnayake highlighted the social, economic and political achievements and developments of Sri Lanka within the last 75 years and emphasized the importance of following the development plan of the government and its vision for the next 25 years.

The Cuban dignitaries appreciated Sri Lanka´s long term commitment to maintaining robust bilateral relations with Cuba and ensured Cuba´s continuous support towards Sri Lanka.  Floral tributes were offered to two former Cuban Ambassadors who rendered a great service for Cuba-Sri Lanka relations and also to the medical doctor who was a member of the first Cuban medical team deployed to Sri Lanka in 1987.

The event concluded with a musical performance by Cuban Singer Laura Maria who sang Sri Lankan and Cuban songs.
