The Consulate General of Sri Lanka in Toronto together with the Canada-Sri Lanka Business Convention (CSLBC) hosted a networking dinner for the twenty five member Sri Lankan delegation that participated in the SIAL trade exhibition, the largest food and beverage trade exhibition in North America held in Toronto from 9 – 11 May 2023. The Sri Lankan Business delegation introduced more than 500 foods and beverages products from Sri Lanka and more than 8,000 visitors across the globe participated in this three day trade exhibition.
The networking event created a platform for the members of Sri Lankan delegation to exchange views and establish business partnerships with the members of Canada-Sri Lanka Business Convention especially in organic food and beverage sector.
Addressing the gathering, Consul General stated that Canada is a challenging and promising market with a 40 million population and a consumer base of $ 45000.00 per capita income. The extreme weather condition in the country has created a niche marketplace for high quality innovative organic agricultural products from tropical countries. The Canadian consumer market is also increasing annually with the immigrant population of sound purchasing power. The Consul General also highlighted that well established Canadian Sri Lankan Business communities would be an added advantage for the young Sri Lankan entrepreneurs to enter the dynamic Canadian market through resilient business partnerships.
Addressing the gathering, the president of CSLBC Kula Sellathurai, stated that the business convention is willing to further strengthen partnerships with Sri Lankan business communities to exploit untapped potentials in the Canadian market. The Chairman of CSLBC Ganesan Sugumar, the executive director Elanko Ratnasabapathey and senior members of the business convention participated in this networking event.
