The Sri Lankan community in Tanzania marked the Sinhala and Tamil New Year with a vibrant celebration held on 05 April 2025 in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. The event was attended by Acting High Commissioner of Sri Lanka to Kenya, Ruvini De Silva, and Honorary Consul of Sri Lanka to Tanzania, Hiran Sumanaweera.
The celebration, organized under the leadership of the Honorary Consul, Sumanaweera brought together over 100 members of the Sri Lankan community and featured a range of traditional New Year games alongside a friendly cricket tournament, fostering a strong sense of cultural connection and community spirit among participants.
The event was made possible through the generous sponsorship of several Sri Lankan businesses operating in Tanzania and few individuals, including Afro Gems Group, DSI Tanzania, LOLC, Lanka Transformers, APS and Master Cable.
