State Minister of Agriculture and Plantation Industries, Mohan Priyadarshana De Silva visited Italy to attend the 18th Session of the Committee on Phytosanitary Measures (CPM18) held at the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) in Rome from 15-19 April 2024.
During his visit, the State Minister met the Undersecretary for Agriculture, Food Sovereignty, and Forestry of the Italian Republic Luigi D'Eramo on 19 April 2024 and they discussed mutual cooperation in agriculture and animal husbandry and fostering collaboration and interchange between the two countries in the agribusiness sector.
Referring to the proposed memorandum forwarded by the Ministry of Agriculture and Plantation Industries of Sri Lanka, the Undersecretary mentioned that the MOU will help incentivize and support initiatives to increase cooperation between Italy and Sri Lanka in the agricultural and livestock sector, promoting sustainable development and the sharing of know-how and knowledge.
The Undersecretary recalled the ancient bond of friendship between Italy and Sri Lanka and the contribution of Sri Lankan migrant workers to the economies of both Italy and Sri Lanka.
The State Minister was accompanied by Chargé d’ Affaires a.i. Ratnasingam Kohularangan, Counsellor Buddhika Herath and Third Secretary Melki Perera for the meeting.
