Embassy Of Sri Lanka Holds Roundtable Discussion With Saudi Officials On Sri Lankan Migrant Workers

The officials of the Embassy of Sri Lanka held a roundtable discussion with the Saudi Arabian officials on 27 August 2019 on migrant worker-related aspects. Saudi officials representing the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Interior, Justice, Labour and Social Development, Departments of Prisons and Immigration and National Information Center took part in this discussion. The discussion was held as a follow up to the visit undertaken by these Saudi officials in Sri Lanka in July 2019.

The parties took up a number of issues related to Sri Lankan migrant workers in the Kingdom; most have been highlighted during their visit to Sri Lanka and had lengthy deliberations to find mutually agreeable solutions for these issues. The parties also agreed to convene similar discussions in the future to review the progress.

Ambassador Dr. Mohammad Al Shammary of the Saudi Arabian Ministry of Foreign Affairs led the Saudi delegation while Ambassador Azmi Thassim headed the Sri Lanka delegation.
