Sri Lanka's Ambassador in Rome Mr. Hemantha Warnakulasuriya accepted a token of the assistance from Minister Plenipotentiary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Mr. Mario SAMMARTINO today, Wednesday 26 in Rome.
At the token handing-over, Mr. Sammartino affirmed that Italian assistance is a recognition of the goodwill and the excellent bi-lateral relations between Italy and Sri Lanka.
Sri Lanka's Ambassador in Rome receiving the token of the assistance conveyed Sri Lanka's deep appreciation for the Italian assistance and said the assistance will make a significant impact in providing relief to those affected by the catastrophic floods in Sri Lanka. He recalled with gratitude the consistent support and assistance of the Italian government in times of great need including the valuable assistance for tsunami recovery. This generosity symbolizes the warmth and generous goodwill Italy extends to Sri Lanka, he said.
The special aircraft containing the relief assistance will arrive in Sri Lanka late evening on Thursday, 27th January. The goods being dispatched are those which are re-usable in future emergency situations as well. The goods include inflatable boats, multi-purpose tents, safety jackets, diesel generators, water tanks, water purification units, blankets and emergency food items etc.
