A 13-member group of Journalists representing both print and electronic media will be in Sri Lanka from 28th Sept. to 05th Oct. on a familiarization cum goodwill tour organized by the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Kuwait in collaboration with the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau (SLTPB) and the Sri Lankan Airlines.
The 12th century painted murals from the Mahavamsa, four abodes of Sinhalese monks and 260 large monuments influenced by Sinhalese were some of the discoveries made by a Sri Lankan team led by scholar Dr. Hema Goonatilake and Sri Lanka Embassy staff including Sri Lankan Ambassador to Myanmar Newton Gunaratne on a recent study visit to the ancient Myanmar city of Bagan.
The Sri Lankan Ambassador to Russian Federation accredited to the Republic of Uzbekistan, Udayanga Weeratunga presented his letter of credentials to Foreign Minister Norov Vladimir Imamovich of Uzbekistan on 30th August 2009 in Tashkent.
The Sri Lanka High Commissioner in Canada spearheaded a multi-faith service on August 9th 2009, at the Bronson Center in Ottawa to mark the dawn of peace in Sri Lanka. This event was organized by the Sri Lanka High Commission and the friends of Sri Lanka in Ottawa as an initial step towards its efforts to integrate the communities after the end of the conflict in Sri Lanka.
The Sri Lanka Embassy in Bangkok arranged two photographic exhibitions at two respected tertiary institutions in Thailand to highlight Sri Lanka’s historical sites and tourist attractions.
Nineteen award-winning Sri Lankan craftsmen are displaying their creations at “Shilpa Sri Lanka-2009” Crafts Exhibition Cum Fair now being held at Dilli Haat, Sri Aurobindo Marg, New Delhi. The Exhibition which began on 25th August goes on until 3 September 2009.
