A group of Kuwait Journalists to undertake a promotional tour to Sri Lanka

A 13-member group of Journalists representing both print and electronic media will be in Sri Lanka from 28th Sept. to 05th Oct. on a familiarization cum goodwill tour organized by the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Kuwait in collaboration with the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau (SLTPB) and the Sri Lankan Airlines.

The Journalists group which is led by Mr.Adnan Khalifa Rashed Ibrahim Al Rashed, Vice President of the Kuwait Journalist Association comprises of high ranking editorial staff from main stream Kuwaiti newspapers such as Al-Jarida, Al-Anbaa, Al-Dar, Al-Watan, Al-Qabas, Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) and the Kuwait Television (KTV), which are extremely popular among the Arabs from Gulf and Middle Eastern countries.

The Ministry of Information of Kuwait, on a request made by the Sri Lankan Embassy selected the group of Journalists for the FAM tour aimed at promoting Sri Lanka as a destination for tourism, investment, leisure, shopping, entertainment etc. The Journalists during their stay in Sri Lanka will conduct interviews with President, Ministers of Foreign Affairs, Tourism, Media etc. and other dignitaries as part of their tour itinerary. They will also visit places of interest and attraction throughout the country including Kandy, Sigiriya, Nuwara Eliya, and the world heritage sites to get a first-hand glimpse of Sri Lanka’s heritage, history, culture & food, leisure, fauna & flora etc. Their programme in Sri Lanka will be coordinated by the Foreign Ministry together with Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau with the assistance of the relevant ministries and departments.

The FAM tour is expected to general much publicity and awareness on Sri Lanka among Kuwaitis through coverage to be given by the media delegation through their respective newspapers and TV channels. It is noteworthy that during the first half of 2009, the number of Kuwaiti tourists to Sri Lanka has gone up by 22% compared to the same period last year.
