Commencement of Work in the Year 2021

The commencement of work for New Year began with the hoisting of the National Flag, followed by the singing of the National Anthem and the lighting of the traditional oil lamp by High Commissioner Air Chief Marshal Kapila Jayampathy and Staff. Two minutes silence was observed to commemorate the war heroes and others who sacrificed their lives on behalf of our motherland.

The event was followed by the religious observances. Most Venerable Datuk K Sri Dhammaratana Maha Nayaka Thero, Chief Priest of Buddhist Maha Vihara, Brickfields and Most Venerable Bhante Saranankara Thero, Chief Priest of Sri Lanka Buddhist Temple, Sentul invoked blessings by Chanting Pirith.

The High Commission Staff took an Oath of Public Service to affirm their commitment to serve the people.

The High Commissioner Air Chief Marshal Kapila Jayampathy addressed the gathering recalling the achievements during the past year and thanked the staff for their untiring efforts and contribution in looking after Sri Lankan citizens in Malaysia and their wellbeing, for the efforts taken for the repatriation of affected Sri Lankans and called on everyone to reinforce the dedication in fulfilling its work in order to meet the needs of the Sri Lankan community and also to further promote the close relations with Malaysia.

The Official Ceremony concluded with a traditional Sri Lankan breakfast which included kiribath and sweetmeats.
