Webinar on Prospects of Belarus-Sri Lanka Bilateral Trade Development

 As the consequence of the official visit of Ambassador of Sri Lanka in the Russian Federation with the delegation to the Republic of Belarus in December 2020, bilateral relations between Sri Lanka and Belarus has been intensifying in every field, especially in trade and investment.

The Embassy has been organizing series of activities promoting Sri Lanka in Belarus. In this context, the Embassy in collaboration with Sri Lanka Export Development Board and the Belarus Chamber of Commerce and Industry along with the National Centre for Marketing and Price Study of Belarus organized a webinar on prospects of Belarus –Sri Lanka trade development on 17 May 2021.

Ambassador of Sri Lanka to the Russian Federation Prof. M.D. Lamawansa, on his welcome speech underlined the importance of developing bilateral relations between the two countries and expressed the intention of the Embassy to facilitate collaboration in economic sphere. Additional Director General-Development of Sri Lanka Export Development Board Malani Baddegamage welcomed the participants and mentioned that Republic of Belarus is considered as a potential market to develop bilateral trade relations and presented on export potential of Sri Lanka in agriculture products: tea, cinnamon, spices, seafood, fruit and vegetables, coconut products, which is followed by the presentation made by Actg. Director – Industrial Products on Industrial export products Harsha Pathberiya,

Deputy Chairman of the Belarusian Chamber of Commerce and Industry Denis Meleshkin, assured his cooperation to   find reliable partners from the Republic of Belarus for Sri Lankan exporters.

Specialist on Marketing, National Agency of Investment and Privatization Nadya Paltarak made a presentation on business climate of the Republic of Belarus. Director of the National Centre for Marketing & Price Study in Belarus Valery Sadoho made a presentatio highlighting  the services provided by their organization and Head of International Cooperation Department of the same organization Evgeniya Komarova continued the presentation outlined the  priority areas for Belarus – Sri Lanka trade and economic cooperation, The National Centre for Marketing & Price Study in Belarus expressed their willingness to offer assistance to conduct marketing research and find Belarusian buyers for importing  products from Sri Lanka to the Belarusian market.

The webinar was attended by a substantial number of participants representing companies in Sri Lanka and Belarus. The discussion created interest in both sides and agreed to continue with B2B sessions in the specific sectors in near future.
