Vesak Festival Celebrations in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia

Marking the first month of the Buddhist Calendar and with the intention of reaching out to the Buddhist communityin Saudi Arabia, the Embassy of Sri Lanka & Sri Lankan community organized a ‘Vesak Programme’ from 10th to 13th May 2017 at the Embassy premises with the participation of Prof. Aththanayake M. Herath and more than 7000 participants from the Sri Lankan community in KSA.  

In keeping with traditions of the festival, the Embassy premises were decorated with Buddhist flags, lamps, pandal, and colourful Vesak lanterns. Activities included vesak bakthi gee, dansala and a blood donation campaign

The Preacher, Prof. Aththanayake delivered meaningful lectures in connection with the righteous ways of leading the lives of human beings according to Buddhism.

Addressing the gathering of the Vesak festival, Ambassador Azmi Thassim emphasized the importance of the Vesak day & he especially thanked all religious participants for their contributions and dedication granted for this event.
