
Ambassador of Sri Lanka to the Kingdom of Thailand, E.A.S. Wijayanthi Edirisinghe visited the Vachirathammarama Temple, Ayutthaya on 21 December 2025. Chief Incumbent of Vachirathammarama Temple, Most Venerable Phravavajirakitvimon extended compassionate support to the people of Sri Lanka by donating 100,000 Thai Baht toward flood relief efforts. The contribution was formally handed over by Most Venerable Abbot of Vachirathammarama Temple to the Ambassador at the sacred hall of the temple.
On behalf of the Government and people of Sri Lanka, as well as the flood victims and all concerned parties, Ambassador Edirisinghe expressed her deepest gratitude to Most Venerable Abbot and the monastic community of Vachirathammarama Temple for their kind and compassionate generosity. This contribution reflects the compassion and goodwill of the Thai Buddhist clergy in assisting Sri Lanka during a period marked by the loss of live, significant damage to homes and livelihoods, and considerable destruction of infrastructure
Sri Lanka and Thailand share a deep and historic relationship rooted in Theravada Buddhism, which has served as a foundation for centuries of friendship and cooperation. Religious exchanges, pilgrimages, temple partnerships, and cultural interactions continue to reinforce these ties, enhanced people-to-people engagement and mutual understanding.
The Embassy of Sri Lanka in Thailand conveys its sincere appreciation to the Chief Incumbent and the Ayutthaya Temple community for this thoughtful and timely gesture. This act of solidarity further demonstrates the enduring friendship between Sri Lanka and Thailand and will meaningfully contribute to ongoing humanitarian efforts assisting those affected by Cyclone Ditwah.
