The Sri Lankaramaya Buddhist Temple in Auckland, New Zealand and the New Zealand Sri Lanka Buddhist Trust (NZSLBT) donate Millions to ‘Ditwah’ Disaster Relief Fund

The Sri Lankaramaya Buddhist Temple and the New Zealand Sri Lanka Buddhist Trust (NZSLBT), under the visionary leadership of Chief Incumbent of Sri Lankaramaya and Chief Prelate of New Zealand, Most Venerable Walgama Munindawansa Nayaka Thero have demonstrated profound solidarity with their motherland by donating NZD 35,000 (approximately LKR 6 million) to support relief and reconstruction efforts following the ‘Ditwah’ disaster in Sri Lanka.

The donation was formally presented to Sri Lanka’s High Commissioner to New Zealand, Prasanna Gamage, at a ceremony held on 14 February 2026 at the Sri Lankaramaya Buddhist Temple in Auckland.

In receiving the contribution, the High Commissioner expressed his deep appreciation for the unwavering commitment and generosity of the Sri Lankan diaspora. He noted that such acts of giving exemplify the Buddhist principle of Karuna (compassion)—reaching out to support those facing hardship and suffering.

The High Commissioner further assured the community that the funds would be channelled through the General Treasury of Sri Lanka and allocated without delay to priority reconstruction initiatives aimed at assisting those most affected by the disaster.
