The High Commission of Sri Lanka in Singapore Mobilises Relief for Flood-Affected Families in Sri Lanka

A consignment of essential relief items for the people affected by Cyclone Ditwah was dispatched from Singapore to the Disaster Management Centre (DMC) in Colombo on 8 December 2025.

The High Commission of Sri Lanka in Singapore, with the support of the Singapore Sinhala Buddhist Association, the Singapore Sinhala Association, and the Mahakaruna Buddhist Society, and the active participation of High Commission staff and volunteers, organized a collection drive on 6 and 7 December at the Sri Lankaramaya Buddhist Temple to gather relief items for this consignment.

In addition to in-kind donations, the High Commission also received direct financial contributions amounting to approx. 5 million LKR from well-wishers, while several members of the Sri Lankan community and Singaporean friends contributed directly to the designated bank accounts for flood relief and “Rebuild Sri Lanka”, as notified by the Government of Sri Lanka.

Further, the Government of Singapore announced a contribution of USD 100,000 through the Singapore Red Cross to support ongoing relief efforts for communities affected by the cyclone in Sri Lanka. This contribution is in addition to the Singapore Red Cross’s pledge of SGD 50,000 to assist affected communities.

Singapore Red Cross has launched a public fundraising appeal for Sri Lanka, commencing with an initial cash pledge of SGD 50,000, to support urgent relief and recovery efforts.

The High Commission of Sri Lanka in Singapore remains committed to coordinating relief initiatives and extends its sincere and deep appreciation to the Government of Singapore, the Singapore Red Cross, community organisations and individuals who have extended a helping hand to Sri Lanka with empathy and generosity during these challenging times.
