The Embassy of Sri Lanka in Washington D.C. celebrates Christmas

In keeping with the tradition of celebrating the major religious festivities, the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Washington D.C. hosted a Christmas celebration on 23 December 2025, at its premises.

Ambassador Mahinda Samarasinghe delivered a message underlining the multi religious culture in Sri Lanka and emphasizing that Christmas is a joyous occasion celebrated by everyone in Sri Lanka and coming all Sri Lankans together.

Monsignor Andrea Piccioni, representing the Apostolic Nunciature in Washington D.C., delivered a sermon emphasizing the universal message of Christmas and conducted the prayer of benediction for the attendees and those who have been affected by Cyclone Ditwah. He highlighted that the teachings of Christ inspire love, compassion, and togetherness, which are fundamental to the spirit of the Christmas season, and a time of crisis such as the aftermath of Cyclone Ditwah is the best time to demonstrate these values.

The event was attended by the Embassy staff, embodying the spirit of this celebration.
