The Deputy High Commission in Chennai Organizes Deepavali Celebrations

The Deputy High Commission of Sri Lanka in Chennai celebrated Deepavali Festival on 20th October 2017 with a performance by a cultural troupe from the Anjana Rajapaksha Academy in Sri Lanka.

Venerable Kalavane Mahanama Thero, the Monk-In-Charge of the Maha Bodhi Society in Chennai, Officials of the Bank of Ceylon and Sri Lankan Airlines offices in Chennai, and the staff of the Deputy High Commission and their family members attended the celebrations.

Addressing the gathering, Deputy High Commissioner of Sri Lanka in Chennai V. Krishnamoorthy highlighted the importance of celebrating Deepavali and stated that it symbolises the victory over darkness with our collective efforts, by spreading the universal message of love, peace, happiness, harmony, light, togetherness, prosperity and health. 

The participants witnessed a colourful performance by the dancing troupe of Anjana Rajapaksha Academy. Cultural performance by the staff of the Bank of Ceylon in Chennai and memorable songs in Sinhala and Tamil sung by the staff of the Deputy High Commission added colour to the occasion.

The event concluded with a dinner at the Official Residence of the Deputy High Commissioner.
