Sri Lankan High Commission in Islamabad hosts an Interfaith Iftar and Dinner

 

Sri Lankan High Commission in Islamabad hosted an interfaith iftar and dinner at the High Commission premises on 26 March 2025, bringing together Sri Lankan students studying in various universities in Pakistan, religious leaders from all faiths, diplomats and dignitaries from diverse backgrounds to celebrate the values of unity, tolerance and coexistence.

The event welcomed representatives from various religious affiliations, including Muslims, Catholics, Hindus, and other special guests. It highlighted the spirit of inclusivity during the holy month of Ramadan.

The programme featured the Holy Quran recitation, Dua Prayer and Azan by the students followed by a special sermon conducted by Grand Mufti of Islamabad & Chairman, Ulama Aman (Peace) Committee Pakistan Dr. Mufti Akeel-Ur-Rehman Pirzada. Addressing the gathering Acting High Commissioner Augustin Christy Ruban highlighted the rich diversity of the Sri Lankan Muslim community and its deep influence in the Sri Lankan culture. He further emphasized Sri Lanka’s commitment to fostering peace and understanding in a diverse society. Additionally, he underscored the value of education and the responsibilities of students as future leaders of the country.

A prominent diplomat of Pakistan and the President of The Millennium Universal College (TMUC) and Millennium Institute of Technology and Entrepreneurship - MiTE University Ambassador Masood Khan (Retd.), a graced the occasion as a special guest. He highlighted the strong bond and relationship between Pakistan and Sri Lanka and expressed his appreciation for organizing Interfaith Iftar & Dinner in meaningful manner. He also commended the contributions of the students towards their motherland in the future.

The gathering for the Iftar included over 200 invitees, with 150 students from various universities in Islamabad and universities in Taxila, Peshawar, and Haripur, KPK province.
