The Sri Lankan High Commission in Islamabad celebrated the Sinhala and Tamil New Year with traditional customs on 15 April 2025 at the High Commission premises. All staff of the High Commission took part in the celebrations.
The proceedings commenced with the lighting of the traditional oil lamp, followed by speeches and the exchange of New Year greetings by Acting High Commissioner Christy Ruban, and Defence Advisor Brigadier Kaminda Silva.
In his address, the Acting High Commissioner highlighted the cultural and spiritual significance of the Sinhala and Tamil New Year. He emphasized the importance of unity and encouraged all staff members to work collaboratively towards enhancing efficiency and effectiveness in their respective roles.
The event concluded with the serving of an array of traditional Sri Lankan delicacies, adding a festive flavour to the occasion and warmly ushering the New Year 2025.
