
The Embassy of Sri Lanka in Riyadh ceremonially commenced its work for the New Year 2026 on 1 January 2026 with a formal programme held at the Embassy premises.
The proceedings began with the hoisting of the National Flag by the Ambassador of Sri Lanka to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Ameer Ajwad, followed by the National Anthem. A two-minute silence was observed in remembrance of the fallen heroes of the country.
All members of the Embassy staff reaffirmed their commitment to efficient and citizen-centred public service by reciting the customary Public Servants’ Oath in the Sinhala and Tamil languages, expressing their resolve to uphold their duties with integrity and dedication in service to the nation.
Addressing the officers of the Mission, Ambassador Ajwad highlighted the achievements of the Mission during the year 2025, encompassing bilateral political, diplomatic, economic and labour welfare spheres, as well as multilateral cooperation between the two countries. He expressed his sincere appreciation to all members of the staff for their cooperation, commitment, and teamwork in achieving the targets outlined in the Embassy’s Action Plan. The Ambassador also called upon the staff to redouble their efforts and commitment in supporting the nation-building initiatives of the Government of Sri Lanka during the year 2026.
The event concluded with the serving of traditional Sri Lankan refreshments, symbolising unity, cultural heritage, and the spirit of togetherness, marking the auspicious commencement of the Embassy’s work for the New Year 2026.
