A high-level Sri Lankan delegation led by Speaker of the Parliament of Sri Lanka, Dr. Jagath Wickramaratne visited the office of the Honorary Consul of Sri Lanka in Lahore on 09 February 2025. The visit was undertaken on the sidelines of the delegation's participation in the 1st Joint CPA Asia & South-East Asia Regional Conference held in Lahore.
The delegation comprised MP, Deputy Minister of National Integration, Mulaffer Mohamed Muneer; MP, Tushari Jayasinghe; MP, Janath Chithral Fernando; MP, Karunanathan Ilankumaran and Secretary General of the Parliament of Sri Lanka, Kushani Rohanadeera. They were accompanied by Acting High Commissioner of Sri Lanka in Islamabad, A. Christy Ruban.
During the visit, the delegation focused on strengthening diplomatic and economic relations between Sri Lanka and Pakistan. They highlighted the importance of deepening collaboration in key areas such as trade, tourism, and investment. Acting High Commissioner played a key role in facilitating these discussions, reaffirming Sri Lanka's commitment to enhancing bilateral ties and regional partnerships.
The delegation had a productive meeting with representatives from the Sri Lanka Pakistan Business Forum, where they explored ways to strengthen economic ties between the two countries. The meeting organized by Honorary Consul of Sri Lanka in Lahore, Yasin Joyia was attended by prominent business leaders including Convener for Trade, Agha Nayyar Latif; Convener for Travel & Tourism, Sadiq Sabir; Convener for Minorities, Shoukat Ashiq Pastor and Convener for PR & Media, Haseeb Khan.
Speaker Wickramaratne expressed his appreciation for the significant contributions of the Sri Lanka Pakistan Business Forum in enhancing trade and business relations. The discussions focused on new trade opportunities, promoting tourism, and finding ways to build a more dynamic partnership between Sri Lankan and Pakistani businesses.
Acting High Commissioner Christy Ruban reaffirmed the commitment of the Government of Sri Lanka to deepening its ties with Pakistan and exploring new avenues for mutual growth and prosperity.
