The Consulate General of Sri Lanka in Karachi, in collaboration with the Sri Lankan community, organized a Vesak Day religious programme on 12 May 2025 at the Consulate premises.
The programme was conducted virtually by the Assistant Principal of Hanwella Mayadunna National School and resident monk of Sudu Ella Maha Bodhi Viharaya, Kaluaggala, Hanwella, Venerable Hangunnawe Mahinda Thero.
The programme featured Buddha Vandana, Dhamma Deshana, Vesak Dansela, and Vesak Bathi Gee, bringing together members of the Sri Lankan community along with Pakistani friends of Sri Lanka.
In keeping with the spirit of compassion and generosity embodied by Vesak, the Consulate also organized a blood donation campaign in collaboration with Indus Hospital in Karachi, with the participation of Sri Lankan community members and local well-wishers.
Speaking at the event, Consul General Jagath Abeywarna emphasized that the celebration of Vesak in Karachi reflects the deep-rooted cultural and religious ties between Pakistan and Sri Lanka. He noted that such events contribute to strengthening people-to-people connections through mutual respect and shared values.
