Sri Lankan Buddhist Monks attend the consecration ceremony of World’s tallest Maravijaya Buddha Image in Myanmar

A high level delegation of eleven Buddhist Monks from Sri Lanka attended the consecration ceremony of Maravijaya Buddha Image in Myanmar on 01 August 2023 at the Buddha Park in Nay Pyi Taw, Myanmar. On an official invitation of the Myanmar Government, this delegation arrived Myanmar on 28 July 2023 and departed to Sri Lanka on 3 August 2023.

During their stay in Myanmar, Prime Minister Senior General Min Aung Hlaing met the delegation personally on 31 July 2023, and paid homage to the Venerable Monks.  Myanmar Prime Minister admired the delegation saying, attendance of the Venerable Monks to this auspicious ceremony will strengthen the cooperation in religious affairs and support the propagation of the Buddhism.

On 01 August 2023, Maravijaya Buddha Image was consecrated on a grand scale.  A total of 855 Buddhist Monks, the Prime Minister and the other high dignitaries of the Myanmar Government, and the Diplomats of the Foreign Missions in Myanmar attended the ceremony.

Maravijaya Buddha Image is considered as the tallest sitting Marble Buddha Image in the world.

Ambassador Janaka Bandara and the other officials of the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Yangon successfully coordinated the visit of Sri Lankan Buddhist Monks delegation with the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Culture of Myanmar.
