In a message sent to mark the occasion the Ambassador of Sri Lanka, Dr. Dayan Jayatilleka whilst thanking the people and town of Argentan for the cordial invitation received to be present in Argentan stated that the support and cooperation had been heartening as it was indicative of the warm and strong close ties that exist between people, and also signified the will and determination to nurture and take forward these close ties. In his message, Ambassador Jayatilleka, who was unable to be present as he was in Colombo for consultations, also said that the warmth, hospitality and thoughtfulness of the French people, especially those in Argentan, was an indication that some of the firmest friends that Sri Lanka possessed were across the seas in France. The Ambassador’s message was delivered on his behalf by the Sri Lanka Embassy in Paris, which was represented by Head of Chancery, W. S. Perera and Second Secretaries G. I. H. Cooke and Y. G. Jayasuriya.

Welcoming Sri Lanka to the event, the Mayor of Argentan, Pierre Pavis noted that it was a wonderful occasion to have Sri Lanka in Argentan as it helped foster understanding and cooperation. The President of the Organizing Committee stated that he was happy to welcome Sri Lanka and looked forward to visiting the country as he had heard so much about the resplendence and beauty of the country, which was in evidence at the Fair. Also present at the event was Senator Nathalie Goulet, the Senator de L’Orne and senior officials of the local government authorities.

Several stall holders, namely Alliance Francaise, Bayadere, Edmonde, Euro Lanka Travels, Guayapi Tropical, Home Décor, Milton Company, Shanika Catering, Sri Lanka Tourism and Vasuhan were present and exhibited a vast array of Sri Lankan products, delectable cuisine and Ceylon Tea courtesy of the Sri Lanka Tea Board given to all visitors to the Fair. In addition Sri Lankan Airlines offered a two way ticket to the winner of a tombola event as well.

The cultural aspect of Sri Lanka and the rich forms of dance were presented by the Ravibandhu - Samanthi Dance Ensemble comprising 12 members, which held the audiences mesmerized by their various dance routines originating from different parts of the country and their vibrant, dynamic drumming sessions using an assortment of drums. The visitors to the Fair were entertained to specially choreographed dance performances every evening and special presentations were held throughout the day at different venues.  Despite attempts made by potentially disruptive elements, brandishing the Tiger flag, to obstruct the participation of Sri Lanka, the Fair organizers, the Town Hall and French authorities ensured that no interruption was permitted and the fair continued in a highly successful manner.

The invitation from the town and people of Argentan strengthened the warm and friendly ties that exist between Sri Lanka and the historic French town which has welcomed other Sri Lankan cultural troupes in the past and maintained links over several decades.
