
The Embassy of Sri Lanka in Bangkok facilitated the participation of 35 Sri Lankan companies at the 72nd edition of the Bangkok Gems & Jewelry Fair (BGJF) 2025, being held from 09 to 13 September 2025 in Bangkok.
These companies are exhibiting under the Sri Lanka Pavilion, collectively occupying 48 booths, and are showcasing a wide array of high-quality gemstones and fine jewelry. Additionally, approximately ten other Sri Lankan-owned companies based in Thailand are also participating in the fair, further highlighting the active role of the Sri Lankan business community in the local gems and jewelry industry. Their presence underscores Sri Lanka’s enduring reputation as a global center for precious stones and artisanal craftsmanship, reaffirming the country’s prominence in the international gem and jewelry trade.
The BGJF has been recognized as one of Asia’s premier industry events, providing an invaluable platform for networking, trade promotion, business development, and international collaboration. Sri Lanka’s continued and active participation reflects its strategic commitment to expanding export markets and fostering deeper engagement with regional stakeholders.
Internationally acclaimed as the “Cradle of Treasures,” Sri Lanka boasts a rich legacy spanning centuries in the gem and jewelry sector. The island is especially well-regarded in Thailand for producing the world-famous Ceylon Blue Sapphire, alongside a diverse range of other precious and semi-precious gemstones.
To commemorate Sri Lanka’s presence at this year’s fair, the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Bangkok hosted the official inauguration of the Sri Lanka Pavilion on 09 September 2025, in conjunction with the fair’s grand opening of the event.
The ceremony was graced by the presence of Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Sri Lanka to the Kingdom of Thailand, Wijayanthi Edirisinghe together with several distinguished Thai dignitaries, including the chief guest to the event, Permanent Secretary of Ministry of Commerce of Thailand, Vuttikrai Leewiraphan, Chairperson of Gem and Jewelry Institute of Thailand (GIT), Nuntawan Sakuntanaga, Director General, Department of International Trade Promotion (DITP), Sunanta Kangvalkulkij and Director General, Gem and Jewelry Institute of Thailand (GIT), Sumed Prasongpongchai.
Their esteemed presence at the inauguration reflected the longstanding friendship, mutual respect, and close collaboration between Sri Lanka and Thailand, particularly in strengthening the gems and jewelry sector as a pillar of economic partnership.
