Sri Lanka makes its second consecutive participation in the renowned Venice Carnival

Sri Lanka participated in the Venice Carnival – 2025 for the second consecutive time, further strengthening its cultural presence at the global stage. Following a successful debut in 2024, Sri Lanka once again mesmerized the international audience with a stunning showcase of its traditional arts, music and dance at one of the world’s most celebrated festivals.

Renowned for its rich history, elaborate costumes and vibrant masquerade balls, the Venice Carnival is considered one of the world's most iconic celebrations, attracting visitors from across the globe. The carnival attracts approximately 3 million visitors annually.

This year’s participation of Sri Lanka in the event, organized by the Consulate General of Sri Lanka in Milan featured a vibrant and immersive display of Sri Lanka’s heritage. The highlight of the event was a spectacular string of performances that combined traditional Sri Lankan dance forms, rhythmic drumming and elaborate costumes- adorned with both traditional and modern masks.

Addressing the gathering at the event, a distinguished representative of the Venice Municipal Council commented that Sri Lanka’s participation has added new colour and energy to the Carnival. While appreciating Sri Lanka’s unique cultural creativity that infuses diversity to the festival, he applauded the Consulate General of Sri Lanka in Milan for its continued efforts in promoting Sri Lanka’s cultural heritage on such a renowned platform.

In a preamble to the cultural performance, Consul General of Sri Lanka in Milan, Dilani Weerakoon stated that Sri Lanka is honoured to be part of this prestigious celebration for the second year in a row and that its participation reflects  the country’s commitment towards international engagement. She further mentioned that Sri Lanka looks forward to continuing to participate in future editions of the event and showcasing the country’s vibrant heritage to the world. The Consul General also appreciated the Sri Lankan community in northern Italy for their continued support extended to celebrate Sri Lanka’s cultural legacy.
