Sri Lanka High Commission participates in Global Affairs Canada International Food Fair in Support of GCWCC, Ottawa, Canada

The High Commission of Sri Lanka in Canada successfully participated in the International Food Fair organized by Global Affairs Canada in support of the Government of Canada Workplace Charitable Campaign (GCWCC), held on 26 November 2025 at the John G. Diefenbaker Building in Ottawa.

The International Food Fair is one of the flagship fundraising events of the GCWCC, Canada’s largest and most successful workplace charitable campaign, which supports community services across Canada as well as Canadian charities working internationally.

More than 40 foreign missions and international representations based in Canada took part in the event, reflecting the strong spirit of diplomatic cooperation and multicultural engagement within the National Capital Region.

The event attracted an estimated 300 to 400 participants, including officials and staff of Global Affairs Canada, along with invited guests.

The Sri Lanka High Commission showcased a variety of traditional Sri Lankan dishes and beverages, including ulunthu vadai, sweet twist murukku, cutlets, and desserts such as milk toffee, together with Sri Lankan specialty tea and Sri Lankan ginger beer, which is already available in the Canadian market, all of which were warmly welcomed by attendees.

In addition to the culinary offerings, the High Commission also engaged in tourism promotion, highlighting Sri Lanka’s rich cultural heritage, culinary diversity, and appeal as a travel destination.

The Food Fair successfully combined the promotion of Sri Lanka’s cultural identity with tangible support for a meaningful charitable cause. Through the collective contributions of all participating missions, the event generated more than CAD 24,000 to strengthen GCWCC-funded initiatives supporting vulnerable communities.

The High Commission of Sri Lanka is pleased to have contributed to this meaningful initiative, which provided a valuable platform to engage with the Canadian public, showcase Sri Lanka’s rich cultural heritage, and support a charitable initiative that benefits communities in Canada and beyond.
