In collaboration with all Sri Lankan communities, the Sri Lanka Embassy in Jordan celebrated Vesak at the Chancery premises on 05 May 2023. The key theme of the celebrations was Serenity of the Mind.
The main spiritual ceremony commenced with observances of Atasil Program.A virtual Dhamma Sermon was aired which conveys a timeless message for every individual to live happily and peacefully and the devotees were encouraged to practice mindfulness in their day to day lives. It was also highlighted the universal applicability of Buddha’s preaching based on the four noble truths and extended Vesak blessings to people of all religions in the world. The devotees took part in Dhamma talks, chanting Pirith, meditation, and offerings to the Lord Buddha.
During her brief remarks, Ambassador J.A.D.S. Priyangika Wijegunasekara elaborated on the contextual significance of the celebrations of Vesak for Buddhists across the globe and practicing of Lord Buddha’s teachings especially at a time when human beings need to overcome various challenges.
During the programme, Vesak messages of the President, Prime Minister and Foreign Minister were read by the Ambassador J.A.D.S. Priyangika Wijegunasekara, Third Secretary (E & W), P.A Rupasinghe and Management Assistant, Anuruddika Punchihewage of the Embassy respectively.
A decorative setting at the Embassy with Buddhist flags and illuminations made the event simple and colorful in keeping with the traditions of Vesak celebrations.
The celebrations were wrapped up with a food donation programme which was attended by around 250 participants.
