Speaker Chamal Rajapaksa pays respect to Mahatma Gandhi

Speaker Chamal Rajapaksa who is on an official visit to India with a delegation of Sri Lankan Parliamentarians paid respects to Mahatma Gandhi at Rajghat on Monday 1 August in New Delhi. Signing the Official Visitor’s Book at Rajghat, the Speaker wrote: I am grateful for the privilege to honour Mahatma Gandhi at this sacred site. The compassion, courage and humanity of the great soul continues to inspire humankind. His life’s message of peace, tolerance and love, manifesting our deep rooted ethos and traditions, inspire us to strive towards greater goodness in self and society.

On this occasion, the Speaker was accompanied by Ministers Dinesh Gunawardena, W.D.J. Senewiratne, Risad Badhiutheen and Muthu Sivalingam and MPs Rajiva Wijesinha, Malani Fonseka, Selvam Adaikkalanathan and D.M. Swaminandan.
