Sinhala & Tamil New Year Celebration in Karachi  

The Consulate General of Sri Lanka in Karachi, in collaboration with the Sri Lankan community in Sindh Province, Pakistan, celebrated the Sinhala and Tamil New Year on 26 April 2026 at the premises of Iqra University in Karachi.  The event was attended by over 450 Sri Lankan nationals and invited Pakistani guests.

The celebration featured a variety of traditional Avurudu games, the serving of authentic Sri Lankan cuisine, distribution of gifts to the winners, a raffle draw, and a lively musical evening, creating a festive and engaging atmosphere for all participants.

In his address, Consul General Mr. Sanjeewa Pattiwila highlighted that the New Year festival serves as a meaningful occasion to reconnect with cultural traditions while promoting mutual understanding among diverse communities. He further underscored the longstanding and friendly relations between Pakistan and Sri Lanka, noting that such cultural initiatives contribute significantly to strengthening people-to-people ties.
