The Government of Singapore provided training for twenty five senior level government officials from Sri Lanka on "Public Sector Leadership" from 26th October - 6th November 2009 in Singapore. The programme was initiated on the request of the High Commission of Sri Lanka in Singapore and co-ordinated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Civil Service College of Singapore. Additional Secretaries, Departmental Heads and other senior officials representing twenty five public institutions from Sri Lanka took part in this programme.

The programme which was conducted by the Civil Service College of Singapore, covered areas such as challenges in policy development, strategic management, policy implementation and best practices, effective problem solving and decision making, among others. The participants were able to draw valuable lessons from the Singapore experience in these areas. Participants in the programme were also briefed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Land Transport Authority, the Housing Development Board and the Port of Singapore Authority.

The Civil Service College of Singapore is in close contact with its counterpart in Sri Lanka, which is the Sri Lanka Institute of Development Administration (SL1DA). It is anticipated that SL1DA, in coordination with the High Commission of Sri Lanka in Singapore and with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Singapore, would be sending another group of senior public officials for leadership and management training at the Civil Service College in the foreseeable future. It is also expected that this training, which is highly beneficial for the participants, would be a regular programme.

The Civil Service College of Singapore is considered to be one of the best not only in the region but in the world for training public service officials. The training in many spheres received by the participants of Sri Lanka would contribute to enhance the productivity and leadership skills, formulation of policies and strategies as well as decision making skills and further improve both internal and external communication.
