Shanghai celebrates 66th National Day of Sri Lanka

The 66th National Day of Sri Lanka was celebrated in Shanghai. The official ceremony took place in the Hongqiao Business Centre premises where the Sri Lanka Consulate General is located. The National Flag was raised and the National Anthem was sung by the Sri Lankan community who gathered for the occasion.

The religious observances were followed by the remembrance of the fallen war heroes. The traditional oil lamp was lit and the messages from H. E. the president, Hon. Prime Minister and the Hon. Minister of External Affairs were read.

This was followed by the address of the Consul General where in her speech, she highlighted the progress in the development of the country under the prevailing condition of the political stability and the Government’s focus in achieving accelerated social and economic development throughout the country.

Consul General highlighted that as a component of the Mission’s contribution to promote bilateral relations, the Consulate was able to facilitate visits of 26 delegations. This was consisted of 14 key tourism promotion activities and o6 major activities connected to trade and investment. The Consulate General continued to keep close contact with the community, especially in celebrating Sinhala and Hindu New Year as well as Vesak. She further briefed on the planned activities for the year 2014.
