
Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Saudi Food and Drug Authority (SFDA) Dr. Hisham bin Saad Aljadhey received Sri Lanka Ambassador to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia Ameer Ajwad at the SFDA headquarters in Riyadh on 24 September 2025.
Ambassador Ajwad and SFDA CEO Dr. Aljadhey explored ways and means to assist Sri Lankan exporters of food and beverages to enter into the Saudi market with a view to expanding Sri Lankan products basket. The ambassador proposed organizing information sharing sessions and workshops between the Saudi Food and Drug Authority (SFDA) and the relevant Sri Lankan stakeholders in the sector including Export Development Board, Sri Lankan Tea Board as well as Sri Lankan exporters of food and beverages. Such arrangements will help Sri Lankan exporters become acquainted themselves with the SFDA regulations and procedures. Both sides agreed to initiate such arrangements.
Ambassador Ajwad was accompanied by Minister/ Head of Chancery, Mohamed Anas and First Secretary/ Commerce, Tashma Vithanawasam of the Sri Lanka Embassy in Riyadh. The Assistant Director of Sri Lanka Export Department Board (EDB), Menaka Herath who visited Riyadh to attend the Saudi Foodex - 2025 also participated during the meeting.
The Saudi Food and Drug Authority (SFDA) is a government agency in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia responsible for regulating, overseeing, and ensuring the safety of food, drugs, medical devices and cosmetics and other related products.
