Mr. Rajakaruna assumed duties as the Deputy High Commissioner of Sri Lanka for Southern India on 09th March 2012.  Observing the Sri Lankan tradition, the new Deputy High Commissioner commenced his duties with lighting of the oil lamp followed by sharing of milk rice with the Mission staff. 

On 10th March 2012, the Sri Lanka Maha Bodhi Centre in Chennai held a special ceremony to welcome the Deputy High Commissioner the ceremony was conducted by the resident Monk of Maha Bodhi Centre, Ven. Kalawane Mahanama Thero and it was concluded with chanting of pirith invoking the blessings of the Noble Triple Gem on the new Deputy High Commissioner.

On the evening of the same day, a special Dharshan was organized at Sri Kaaligambal Temple in Chennai, for the Deputy High Commissioner to receive the auspicious blessings as per the Hindu religious practice and belief. During the Dharshan, the Chief Priest of the Temple performed a special pooja and blessed the Deputy High Commissioner by presenting him a ‘blessed garland’ and welcomed him by presenting a shawl as per the tradition and custom of Tamil Nadu.
