Myanmar Provides Assistance for Disaster Relief work in Sri Lanka  

The Embassy of Sri Lanka in Yangon, Myanmar, reports the valuable support received from the Government of Myanmar, as well as from charity, business, and private entities, for disaster relief efforts in Sri Lanka following Cyclone Ditwah.

The Government of Myanmar demonstrated solidarity by providing a monetary donation of USD 100,000, 500 tons of rice, 5.62 tons of medicines and medical products, and 2.16 tons of consumable goods, reflecting the longstanding diplomatic ties and friendship between the two countries.

The Embassy also acknowledged contributions from private and business entities, and the Sri Lankan community in Myanmar. Most Venerable Sitagu Sayadaw Ashin Nyanissara Mahanayake Thero, President/Founder of the Sitagu International Buddhist Missionary Association, Myanmar, donated USD 10,000. Guston Amava & Amava Apparel Company Ltd contributed Myanmar Kyat 20 million (approximately LKR 1.67 million). The Sri Lankan Association in Myanmar remitted USD 5,927 directly to the Sri Lanka Government’s Dollar Account established for relief purposes.

The Embassy extends its heartfelt gratitude to all contributors for their timely and generous support. These contributions directly assisted Sri Lanka in addressing urgent needs arising from the disaster and highlight the enduring solidarity and friendship between Myanmar and Sri Lanka in times of crisis.
