The Seva Vanitha Unit of the Ministry of External Affairs gifted a much needed COBAS CIII fully automated analyzer with several reagent kits, two air conditioners, a computer and printer to the Night laboratory of the National Cancer Institute Maharagama. The total cost of these equipment amounting to approximately SL Rupees two million four hundred and fifty thousand, was funded by the Seva Vanitha Sub Unit of the Sri Lankan Mission in Japan headed by Mrs. Ashoka Karunnagoda. JPY 963,208 of this amount was a contribution by the Asia Pacific Ladies’ Friendship Society of Japan, which holds an Annual Fund Raising Bazaar. The Seva Vanitha Unit of the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Japan also participates at this event, organizing a booth to promote tea and Sri Lankan handicrafts and food items. The President of this Society, Madam Haruko Komura has been very supportive, donating generously, funds over the years to be channeled to deserving charities in Sri Lanka.

Members of the Seva Vanitha Unit of the Ministry of External Affairs, Mrs. Savitri Peiris, Mrs Krisanthi Perera & Mrs. Dilum Amunugma handed over much needed equipment to the value of Rs. 2.4 million to the National Cancer Institute. Dr. Mrs. Rajitha Samarasinghe, Consultant Chemical Pathologist, Dr. Kanishka Karunarathne, Director, and Dr. Jayantha Balawardane Senior Consultant Radiation Oncologist accepted these donations on behalf of the Cancer Institute. The fund for the donation were provided by the Seva Vanitha Sub-Unit of the SL Mission in Tokyo.
