The Foundation Stone laying ceremony for the New Building on the allocated land by the State of Qatar for the Stafford Sri Lankan School, Doha, Qatar held on 14 December 2018.
10,000 square meters plot of land was provided by the Qatar Government in 2013, for the construction of Sri Lankan Community School.
The Under Secretary of the Ministry of Education and Higher Education Dr. Ibrahim Saleh Al Naimi, Ambassador HE Ibrahim Yousif Abdullah al Fakrou, Director of Protocol, HE Tarek Al Abdullah, Advisor for the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, HE Hamad Al Ghali, Director of Private School Licensing and the dignitaries from Qatar attended the ceremony.
Speaking at the event, on behalf of HE the President of Sri Lanka, the Ambassador HE A.S.P. Liyanage thanked HH Emir of the State of Qatar for providing the land. He further stated that the construction of the new building will be completed within one year period and the school which is running in a rented building will be shifted to the new building.
On his remarks, the Under Secretary of the Ministry of Education and Higher Education congratulated the Ambassador and the new management for the initiatives taken to build the new building which provide a better environment to the students.
Mr. Roshan Balasooriya, new Chairman of the school assured that with the full support of Embassy, the new management will complete construction of state of the art building as quickly as possible.
There were around 2000 Sri Lanka expatriates participated at the event.
