Excellency Sunil de Silva, Sri Lanka High Commissioner in Nairobi, Kenya presented credentials to His Excellency Denis Sassou Nguesso, President of the Republic of Congo on 19 December 2018 at the President’s Palace in Brazzaville.
Diplomatic relations between the two countries was established in January 2012. The Sri Lanka High Commission is concurrently accredited to the Republic of Congo while the Ambassador of the Republic of Congo in New Delhi is concurrently accredited to Sri Lanka.
High Commissioner de Silva also met Hon. Mr.Jean Claude Gakosso, Foreign Minister and Ms. Lauria Nguele Chief of Protocol during the credential ceremony and discussed ways and means to improve bilateral relations between the two countries. The Republic of Congo as a member of the Human Rights Council till 2017 had supported Sri Lanka’s endeavors during UNHCR Sessions in Geneva on reconciliation.
Sri Lanka is exploring possibilities of investing in the Republic of Congo specially in the Power and Energy sector.
