High Commissioner of Sri Lanka to Canberra, Yasoja Gunasekera paid a courtesy call on the Speaker of the Australian House of Representatives, Milton Dick, M.P, at the Parliament of Australia on 2 December 2025.
The High Commissioner and the Speaker discussed further advancing the parliamentary cooperation between the two countries mainly through partnerships between the parliamentary friendship groups and bilateral visits. The Speaker expressed his interest in visiting Sri Lanka in the New Year.
The Speaker Milton Dick expressed his deep concern at the devastation caused by Cyclone Ditwah. The Speaker has established close ties with the Sri Lankan community in Queensland and participates in many of their events such as the annual “Sri Lanka Day’ which is organized in Brisbane on a grand scale. The Speaker therefore takes a great interest in the developments in Sri Lanka and expressed fondness for Sri Lanka and the people of Sri Lanka.
