High Commissioner of Sri Lanka holds discussions with CEO of Ministry for Ethnic Communities of New Zealand

 

High Commissioner of Sri Lanka to New Zealand, Prasanna Gamage met with Chief Executive Officer of the Ministry for Ethnic Communities of New Zealand, Mervin Singham on 13 March 2025 in Wellington.

They exchanged views on possible avenues for enhancing engagement of the Sri Lankan expatriate community in New Zealand with the activities conducted by the Ministry for Ethnic Communities of New Zealand. The suggested initiatives include facilitating tourism and trade, supporting small businesses and community organizations and promoting social cohesion and harmony. CEO Singham expressed confidence that with the establishment of the new High Commission of Sri Lanka in Wellington, the New Zealand authorities would be able to productively engage with Sri Lanka, in the years ahead.

Further, CEO Singham commended the contributions being made by the Sri Lankan expatriate community for the development of New Zealand, which are well recognized at all levels of society. He also briefed the High Commissioner on the role and objectives of the Ministry for Ethnic Communities as the Chief Advisor to the New Zealand Government on ethnic diversity and inclusion in the country.

Both CEO Singham and the High Commissioner Gamage emphasized the importance of cooperation between the High Commission and the Ministry for Ethnic Communities and expressed hope to strengthen engagement with each other in the future.
