High Commission of Sri Lanka in Ottawa Showcases Culture and Cuisine at Two Signature Events

The High Commission of Sri Lanka to Canada participated in two major cultural events recently, highlighting Sri Lanka’s rich cultural heritage and culinary excellence and helped enhance community engagement. The two events, the 2025 Y Embassy Chef Showcase organised by the YMCA of the National Capital Region, and the Celebration of Asian Heritage Month Night Market organised by Global Affairs Canada provided opportunities to Diplomatic Missions in Ottawa to showcase their cultural and culinary heritage and for visitors to experience unique food and culture from all over the world.

Guests who visited the Sri Lankan booth enjoyed traditional bites, premium Ceylon tea, and beverages. The booth also featured handcrafted items and displays offering a glimpse into Sri Lanka’s renowned hospitality, scenic beauty, and cultural heritage.

The High Commission’s participation reflected its support for the valuable contributions of the YMCA in the National Capital Region.

The event helped raise CAD 55,000 to support the YMCA programmes and services, including initiatives for newcomers, transitional housing, and youth development.

The High Commission’s participation in the “Night Market” hosted by Global Affairs Canada (GAC) as part of Asian Heritage Month Celebrations promoted culture and traditions in Canada through food, interactive activities, and cultural displays.

The Asian Heritage Month, observed in May, recognizes the achievements and contributions of Canadians of Asian descent and highlights the impact of Asian communities on Canadian society. The 2025 theme was “Unity in Diversity: The Impact of Asian Communities in Shaping Canadian Identity.”
