An exhibition of paintings was held recently at the High Commission of Sri Lanka in New Delhi to coincide with the 72nd anniversary of Independence of Sri Lanka.
The two-day exhibition, titled “Cultural Tapestry of Sri Lanka”, which featured paintings of thirty young Indian artists, was organized by the High Commission of Sri Lanka in New Delhi in collaboration with Empowerment, an Indian organization promoting cross cultural diversity through art.
The paintings, created by a group of young and talented artists under Empowerment’s Youth Artists for Cultural Diversity Project, depicted the history, culture, natural beauty and way of life of Sri Lanka as well as the deep-rooted connection between Sri Lanka and India based on Buddhism.
The exhibition was officially inaugurated on the evening of 04 February 2020 by Acting High Commissioner Niluka Kadurugamuwa and Empowerment’s President Kumar Vikas Saxena.
A large number of invitees including diplomats, academics and art lovers attended the opening ceremony. Making brief remarks at the opening ceremony, the Acting High Commissioner defined the exhibition as a fine act of public diplomacy and thanked Empowerment for collaborating in promoting Sri Lankan culture in India. He also presented certificates and trophies to the young artists at the opening ceremony.
The exhibition was open for the public on 05 February, and a large number of art lovers viewed the exhibition.
