High Commission of Sri Lanka in London hosts annual Ifthar reception

The High Commission of Sri Lanka in London held its annual Ifthar reception on 25 May to celebrate the month of Ramadan, with the participation of the Sri Lankan community living in the United Kingdom.

Moulawi Salman of the Harrow Mosque led the prayers and addressed the gathering. He blessed Sri Lanka and its people  while recalling the significance of Ramadan.

Addressing the gathering, Acting High Commissioner Sugeeshwara Gunaratna stressed on the universal significance of the month of Ramadan and the importance behind the concepts of abstinence, self-sacrifice and charity that marked the month of Ramadan. He also stated that Sri Lanka was home to people from all the four major religious beliefs of the world and recalled the contribution of the Muslim community to Sri Lankan society in all spheres including, among others, business and finance, politics and academics.

A traditional Ifthar dinner was served to the Sri Lankan community attending the reception.
