
The High Commission of Sri Lanka in Kuala Lumpur today hosted an Evening High Tea programme under the theme #VisitSriLanka, reaffirming Sri Lanka’s commitment to promoting tourism and people-to-people ties with Malaysia.
The event was organised under the leadership and auspices of the Acting High Commissioner of Sri Lanka to Malaysia Mohamed Rizvi. The initiative formed part of the Mission’s ongoing diplomatic and tourism promotion efforts aimed at positioning Sri Lanka as a preferred travel destination for Malaysians in 2026. In his opening remarks, the Acting High Commissioner underscored Sri Lanka’s readiness to welcome Malaysian travellers, highlighting the island’s natural beauty, cultural heritage, hospitality, and resilience. He emphasised that Sri Lanka’s tourism sector has rebounded and remained safe and attractive for international visitors.
The programme brought together Malaysian travel and tourism stakeholders, media representatives, and airline partners, reflecting strong interest in Sri Lanka’s tourism revival. The Country Manager of SriLankan Airlines for Malaysia provided an overview of airline operations, highlighting air connectivity between Sri Lanka and Malaysia that continued to facilitate tourism and people-to-people exchanges.
The Chairman of the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau Buddika Hewawasam addressed participants virtually, presenting Sri Lanka’s tourism offerings and outlining promotional initiatives targeted at the Malaysian market. The President of the Malaysian Indian Travel and Tour Association (MITTA), Dato’ Aruldas expressed the Association’s support for promoting Sri Lanka and encouraged tour operators to include Sri Lanka in their travel packages.
Malaysian visitors who travelled to Sri Lanka following Cyclone Dithwa shared their experiences, reflecting on recovery efforts and continued hospitality, which reinforced confidence in Sri Lanka as a resilient destination. The programme concluded with networking and a showcase of Sri Lankan cuisine, reinforcing the Mission’s invitation to Malaysians to #VisitSriLanka in 2026.
