High Commission of Sri Lanka in Islamabad celebrates Christmas

The High Commission of Sri Lanka in Pakistan celebrated Christmas in a simple ceremony held on 23 December 2024 at the Embassy premises in Islamabad.

Rev. Fr. Augustine from St. Patima Church, Islamabad, and the Rev. Sisters from the Apostolic Nunciature, Holy See, graced the occasion and invoked blessings.

In his remarks at the event, Acting High Commissioner of Sri Lanka in Pakistan, Christy Ruban emphasized the significance of Christmas and the importance of peaceful coexistence despite various differences. He stressed that Christmas is a time to create memories, appreciate the blessings in our lives, and spread kindness to those around us. He also highlighted that Christmas marks the birth of Jesus Christ symbolizing the significance of life. “Born into a world of greed, hatred, vengeance, and hypocrisy, Jesus Christ grew up to eliminate these negativities, teaching everyone to love one another and spreading the good news of peace”, he added.

The event was attended by the Honorary Consul of Sri Lanka to Peshawar, the staff of the High Commission of Sri Lanka in Islamabad and their families along with community members of different faiths living in Pakistan.

Santa Claus distributed gifts among children, and the celebration featured Christmas carols, dance performances and cutting of Christmas cake followed by the serving of refreshments and dinner.
