The High Commission of Sri Lanka in Dhaka ceremonially commenced official work for the year 2026 with a special programme held at the High Commission premises on 01 January 2026.
The programme began with the hoisting of the National Flag by the High Commissioner of Sri Lanka to Bangladesh, Dharmapala Weerakkody, followed by the singing of the National Anthem. A two-minute silence was thereafter observed in solemn remembrance of the members of the Tri-Forces and all others who made the supreme sacrifice in service of the motherland.
In keeping with longstanding tradition, the staff of the High Commission recited the Oath/Affirmation as public servants, reaffirming their collective commitment to the delivery of efficient, honest, and productive public service with dedication, integrity, and loyalty to the public.
Addressing the gathering, the High Commissioner underscored the importance of public officials discharging their duties with efficiency and a citizen-centred approach to public service, in line with government policies, in order to support inclusive socio-economic development. He further emphasized the vital role of public servants in contributing actively to the Government of Sri Lanka’s “Rebuilding Sri Lanka” initiative, while strengthening institutional capacity, promoting clean governance, and ensuring sustainable growth and long-term national stability.
The High Commissioner also called upon all staff members to work collectively to further strengthen and promote the longstanding, close, and friendly multifaceted bilateral partnership between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka, with a view to transforming it into an even more vibrant and mutually beneficial cooperation.
The programme concluded with the serving of a traditional Sri Lankan breakfast and Ceylon tea.
