Sri Lanka High Commission in Dhaka, Bangladesh by fully complying with the instructions of Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Sri Lanka observed National Mourning Day on Tuesday, 23 April, 2019 at 9 am local time (8.30 am Sri Lankan time). The High Commissioner brought the national flag to half-mast followed by all the staff of the High Commission observing 3 minutes silence in commemorating the victims due to the devastating act of the terrorism on Easter Sunday on 21 April, 2019.

The High Commission also opened a Condolence Book at the chancery on the same day. Various dignitaries including H.E. the Foreign Minister of Bangladesh, Ambassadors and High Commissioners of Foreign Missions stationed in Bangladesh, Heads of UN and International Agencies signed the Condolence Book and expressed solidarity with Sri Lanka.

The High Commission together with the Sri Lankan Association in Bangladesh organized religious observances on Friday, 26 April, 2019 at the chancery premises. A large number of Sri Lankans and Bangladesh nationals were present at the occasion. The observances began with lighting the oil lamps/candles in memory of all those who had passed away followed by Buddhist, Hindu, Muslim and Christian Clergy delivering brief sermons. Addressing the gathering, H.E. the High Commissioner wished speedy recovery to the injured Sri Lankans and foreigners. He also stated that those who are responsible for this act of brutality will be dealt with severely according to the law. High Commissioner emphasized the importance of providing all the necessary assistance in whatever possible ways to the families of victims. The Secretary of the Sri Lankan Association in Bangladesh also addressed the gathering. The event ended with the singing of National Anthem.
