The High Commission of Sri Lanka in Kuala Lumpur conducted a series of investment promotion activities in Malaysia in collaboration with Colombo Port City in February and March 2025. These initiatives aimed to strengthen economic ties, attract Malaysian investors, and showcase Sri Lanka’s investment potential.
The Acting High Commissioner of Sri Lanka in Kuala Lumpur, M.I. Mohamed Rizvi formally introduced Colombo Port City to the Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry (MITI) of Malaysia and held a meeting with Deputy Minister of MITI, Chin Tong Liew. During the discussion, key investment opportunities in Colombo Port City were introduced. Further, the importance of addressing Sri Lanka’s trade imbalance with Malaysia by encouraging greater Malaysian investment in Sri Lanka’s growing economy was emphasized.
Moreover, the High Commission organized Business-to-Business (B2B) sessions with the Malaysia-Sri Lanka Business Council (MSLBC) and engaged with the Malaysian-Ceylonese business community. These sessions provided a platform for direct engagement with potential investors and to highlight the benefits of investing in Colombo Port City.
Additionally, the Mission facilitated discussions with the Kuala Lumpur & Selangor Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KLSICCI) to counter misconceptions, promote Sri Lanka’s economic opportunities, and strengthen trade and investment partnerships with Indian-origin entrepreneurs in Malaysia.
A key meeting was also held with former Chief Minister of Kedah and prominent business leader, Dato' Seri Utama Mukhriz bin Tun Dr. Mahathir. Discussions focused on connecting with high-net-worth investors in Malaysia, strengthening investment linkages, and expanding Sri Lanka’s economic footprint in the region.
General Manager of Investment Promotion and Marketing, Tian Zheng and Executive Director of Marketing at CHEC Port City Colombo Pvt. Ltd., Shalaka Wijeyaratne, joined the Acting High Commissioner in these discussions.
