The new government of Brazil under President Lula de Silva is supportive of Sri Lanka towards achieving political and economic stability, said Secretary for Asia, and Pacific of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Brazil Ambassador Eduardo Paes Saboia, speaking at a well-attended diplomatic reception organized by the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Brazil to celebrate the 75th Anniversary of National Day of Sri Lanka. The event was held on 07 February 2023 at the Embassy premises in Brasilia.
Ambassador Eduardo Saboia said that the First Round of Political Consultations between Sri Lanka and Brazil was held successfully in November 2022 and expressed confidence that both Sri Lanka and Brazil will work towards achieving mutual benefits in all spheres, under the policy frameworks of the respective countries.
In his address, Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Brazil Sumith Dassanayake stated that this year marks the 63rdAnniversary of the establishment of formal diplomatic relations between Sri Lanka and Brazil, and over the years the two countries have cooperated with each other bilaterally as well as in multilateral fora. He further stated that the government led by President Ranil Wickremesinghe is committed to achieving political and economic stability in the country and is also making progress towards reconciliation.
On the invitation of the Ambassador , the audience observed two minutes of silence to express solidarity to the victims of the recent earthquakes in Syria and Turkey.
Over 90 guests representing the diplomatic corps, senior officials of the Government of Brazil and Trade Chambers, leading entrepreneurs, tour operators, journalists and well–wishers attended the diplomatic reception .
